E-Bike Services
Fresh Bikes is a certified e-bike service center with trained technicians and proper diagnostic equipment. Below is a complete guide to what we service, what we cannot, and important safety information for all e-bike owners.
Approved Motor & Electrical Systems
We service the following e-bike systems:
These are the motor and electrical systems we are trained, equipped, and certified to diagnose and repair. Our technicians have access to manufacturer diagnostic tools, firmware updates, and genuine replacement parts for each of these platforms.
Approved E-Bike Brands
We service e-bikes from traditional bike-shop-quality manufacturers, including but not limited to:
Don't see your brand? If it's a traditional bike-shop-quality manufacturer with one of the approved motor systems above, we can likely service it. Call us to confirm.
E-Bike Class Policy
We service Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 e-bikes only.
- Class 1 — Pedal-assist only, up to 20 mph
- Class 2 — Throttle-assisted, up to 20 mph
- Class 3 — Pedal-assist only, up to 28 mph
We do not service e-motorcycles, e-scooters, or e-dirt bikes.
What We Cannot Service
The following are not accepted for any service work:
- ✕eMoto-class vehicles — SurRon, Talaria, and similar electric motorcycles or mopeds. This includes tire and tube changes, even on a bare wheel.
- ✕Amazon / direct-to-consumer electric bikes — including all unbranded, white-label, or marketplace-only e-bikes
- ✕DIY or add-on electric bike kits — no aftermarket conversion kits installed or serviced
- ✕Electric scooters — no exceptions, regardless of brand or quality
Why We Decline These Products
We understand this can be frustrating, and we genuinely wish we could help every rider. However, the safety of our shop, our team, and our customers has to come first. Here's why we have these restrictions:
Insurance Constraints
Our shop insurance policies explicitly do not cover eMoto-class vehicles, unregulated electric bikes, or scooters. Accepting these products for service would void our coverage and put the entire business at risk. This is an industry-wide limitation, not a choice we make lightly.
Liability Concerns
Many of these products use unregulated electronics with non-UL-certified batteries and charging systems. Without standardized safety certifications, performing any work on these systems creates unacceptable liability exposure. A charging or electrical fault after service — even one completely unrelated to the work performed — could expose the shop to significant legal risk.
Fire Hazards
Low-cost lithium battery packs — particularly those found in direct-to-consumer e-bikes, eMoto vehicles, and DIY conversion kits — are a documented fire risk. Many use cheap lithium cells with inadequate or nonexistent battery management systems (BMS), no thermal runaway protection, and no independent safety certification. There are hundreds of documented cases of these batteries spontaneously combusting during charging or even while sitting idle. Storing, charging, or working on these products in our shop puts our facility, adjacent businesses, and everyone inside at risk.
Quality Control Issues
These products typically lack standardized parts, use inconsistent manufacturing processes, and have no reliable replacement component supply chain. Even when a repair is technically possible, we cannot guarantee the quality or safety of the result. Proprietary connectors, undocumented wiring, and non-standard torque specs make it impossible to service these products to the standard we hold ourselves to.
E-Bike & Battery Safety
Whether your e-bike is serviced at Fresh Bikes or elsewhere, proper battery care is critical for your safety and the longevity of your investment. Lithium-ion batteries are powerful energy storage devices that require respect and proper handling.
Charging Best Practices
- Only charge with the manufacturer-supplied charger — never use a third-party or universal charger
- Never charge unattended or overnight — stay in the same room while charging
- Charge on a non-flammable surface (concrete, tile) away from flammable materials
- Do not charge in garages near vehicles, fuel, or chemicals
- Unplug the charger when the battery reaches full charge — do not leave plugged in indefinitely
- Do not charge a battery that is extremely hot or cold — let it reach room temperature first
Storage & Care
- Store batteries at room temperature (60–80°F) in a dry location
- For long-term storage, keep the battery at 40–60% charge — not fully charged or fully depleted
- Do not expose batteries to extreme heat, direct sunlight, or freezing temperatures for extended periods
- Inspect your battery regularly for physical damage, swelling, or unusual odors
- Never puncture, crush, or disassemble a lithium battery
- Keep batteries away from water and moisture
Warning Signs — Stop Using Immediately
If you observe any of the following, stop using the battery immediately, move the bike outdoors to a non-flammable area, and keep a safe distance:
- Battery is unusually hot to the touch during charging or use
- Visible swelling or deformation of the battery pack
- Hissing, crackling, or popping sounds
- Chemical smell (sweet, acrid, or solvent-like odor)
- Smoke or discoloration coming from the battery or charger
- Battery was dropped, submerged in water, or involved in a crash
What To Do in a Battery Emergency
- Move the bike outdoors immediately — get it away from buildings, vehicles, and people
- Call 911 — lithium battery fires are chemical fires that require specialized response
- Do not attempt to extinguish with water — water can react with lithium and intensify the fire
- Do not attempt to remove the battery if it is actively smoking or burning
- Maintain a safe distance — lithium battery fires produce toxic fumes
- Alert neighbors and bystanders to the hazard
Disposal
Never dispose of lithium-ion batteries in regular trash or recycling. Damaged or end-of-life batteries should be taken to a certified battery recycling facility or hazardous waste collection site. Many bike shops — including Fresh Bikes — can accept batteries from approved brands for proper recycling through manufacturer take-back programs. Contact us for details.
Fresh Bikes reserves the right to refuse service on any e-bike at our sole discretion, regardless of brand, motor system, or class. Safety is non-negotiable.
